Chainsaw Safety Focus of May Public Works Supervisor Roundtable

5/10/2019

Picture
Many public works departments are required to remove downed trees in parks or during emergency call-outs.  The  use of chain saws is common.  Many safety basics like chaps, protective eye and headwear are often overlooked.  Further, the safe operation of this equipment requires a thorough understanding of the safety features of the device and the techniques to avoid dangerous situations.

Fortunately for QVCOG public works departments, one of our colleagues, Nate Briggs of Sewickley Heights Borough  is highly trained in the operation of chainsaws, including certification in the Wildland Fire Chainsaw Safety Course, S-12.  The Public Works Roundtable benefited from Nate's knowledge and experience with a demonstration of safe tree falling and chainsaw operations on May 8, 2019.  Thank you Nate,  for your presentation and demonstration of precise tree falling.  Additional thanks to Sewickley Heights Borough for hosting the may Public Works Supervisors Roundtable.
