GIS Workshop - On Thursday, February 16th at 11:00 a.m. the QVCOG in partnership with Civic Mapper will be conducting a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) workshop open to all who are interested in learning more about the platform. Newly generated maps focusing on road ownership and legislative boundaries will be demonstrated. The workshop will take place at the Sewickley Public Library (500 Thorn Street, Sewickley, PA 15143). Please contact Executive Director Conners to confirm your attendance at the event.
Interactive Member Zoning Map
In the coming months the Quaker Valley COG is seeking to build upon its existing comprehensive zoning tool for member municipalities. Residents, realtors, business owners, and Municipal Staff will have access to a searchable zoning map which will help identify the designated zoning classification and associated zoning regulations for any property. Additionally, users will have access to a Google "street view" of the property as well as direct access to the Allegheny County Real Estate portal. A "Beta" version of this map can be found below. The map will be undergoing various updates and changes so please stay tuned for this exciting project! If you have any feedback regarding this initiative please contact Executive Director Patrick Conners via email at [email protected]. ***Please note, users should always consult with their municipality to verify municipal boundaries, zoning designations, property lines, and other data that can be found using this tool.
GIS Road Ownership Map
In an effort to provide a functional tool for both municipalities and their residents, the QVCOG has crafted a "road ownership" map within its GIS interface. Users may search for any road within the QVCOG region and will be able to identify whether it is owned/maintained by PennDOT, Allegheny County, a municipality, or privately-owned. As is the case with any GIS-based map, it will be routinely monitored and updated to ensure its accuracy. ***Please note, users should consult with the identified agency(s) (i.e. PennDOT, Allegheny County, etc.) to verify road ownership and other data that can be found using this tool.
GIS Technical Assistance Program - How it Works
QVCOG member communities are encouraged to procure individual licenses from ESRI to access the ArcGIS Online platform. Interested parties may reach out to Mr. Matt Mercurio ([email protected]) or Executive Director Patrick Conners ([email protected]) for further information regarding attaining an annual subscription. ESRI platform subscribers will have access to their own individual license and will be able to create maps, templates, and other illustrative features specific to their community.
Do-it-yourselfers can take it from there. Alternatively, subscribers can join a fixed-price GIS Technical Service Program.
Technical assistance and training available to the entire QVCOG GIS User group to allow for cost savings and knowledge sharing.
Municipalities who joint the GIS Technical Assistance Program will have the opportunity to collaborate with other QVCOG member communities through ESRI's cloud technology. Participants will be provided with training from Mr. Mercurio allowing them access to maps, share data sets, and build upon existing features through ESRI's ArcGIS "Solutions" package.
The program is rooted in the following principles:

The program is rooted in the following principles:
- Right-sized technological resources to improve services and administration of local governments;
- Better access and interpretation of community data occurs when visualized through maps; and
- Cloud-based GIS and Open Data make technology accessible to all users, providing local governments the ability to share data and expertise to improve decision-making
Resources:
- QVCOG Reference Map (QRM): A parcel map featuring the 15 municipalities of QVCOG. Parcel shape data is up-to-date in real time through Open Data API with Allegheny County Real Estate; assessment data is updated monthly. For use as a base map for adding features by individual municipalities.
- Systematic Property Condition Assessment & Rating (SPCAR) is a collection of maps and apps that allows for visual depiction of property conditions for the purpose of consistent and fair code enforcement. Featuring parcel map with Collector interface that provides for in-the-field collections of property conditions and a Rating Map that shows priorities for code enforcement.
- 1LINK: A map linked to PA One Call for comparing ticket locations to municipal maps. Helps to determine accuracy of PA One Call Maps and municipal duties for PA One Call response. Utilizing Web Ticket Access data from PA One Call and map data from your municipal engineer, a user can quickly see and then respond to in PA 1 call Tickets through the PA One Call Web Ticket Access portal. Track and visualize all PA One Call activity for a given period.
