Quaker Valley Council of Governments (QVCOG) and its member municipalities have established a clean water initiative with the intent to inform and improve our waterways through the outreach and education of our citizens. This partnership based approach has many advantages. It improves access to resources and increases the effectiveness & efficiency and public influence of the educational campaign. The members of the QVCOG work in conjunction with each other to educate citizens about how our behaviors effect of waterways.

October 28, 2018 Exhibits on clean water and "pick up the poo" at Emsworth Halloween Parade. Free pet leash waste bag holder distributed compliments of ALCOSAN.
September 8, 2018 QVCOG exhibited at Sewickley Harvest Festival, this year from 10 AM - 5 PM. Visitors to the booth learned what they can do to help keep our water clean. Everything from lawn and garden care to picking up after our pets makes a difference.
August 11, 2018 Quaker Valley COG brought the Clean Water Initiative to Wizardvue on August 11, 2018 from 11 AM - 7 PM in Bellevue PA. Visitors tried their hand at the Aquamenti Spell -- a charm that conjures a jet of clear pure water from the tip of the caster's want. Muggles learned what we can do the conserve water and keep it clean, including information about rain barrels and handling pet waste.
March 3, 2018 "Grow Organic - Making the Transition " QVCOG and Fern Hollow Nature Center hosted Jessica Walliser, noted horticulturist, author and speaker as she walked us through getting started with organic practices in our yard, garden and home.

February 11, 2017 QVCOG partnered with Fern Hollow Nature Center for an educational program on Organic Lawncare. Homeowners help to keep waterways clean by making informed choices when caring for their gardens and lawns.
September 9, 2017 QVCOG participated in the Sewickley Harvest Festival and provided informational materials on what homeowners can do to around the house to conserve water and save money. How to be a responsible pet owner was also explained via an amusing and informative "Emoji" display. Participants who took the "Clean Water Quiz" were entered in drawing for a Rain Barrel.
September 23, 2017 QVCOG conducted a Household Hazardous Waste and Special Electronics Collection in Avalon Community Park. Participants received a brochure, "When it Rains, It Drains" providing overall awareness of the asset rain water represents and the care needed to reduce sediment run-off and keeping pollutants out of the storm sewer system (which drains to creeks and rivers).
October 28, 2017 Emsworth Borough hosted QVCOG display at it annual Halloween Parade. A display explaining how a rain barrel words was available and the publication "Homeowners Guide to Stormwater Best Management Practices Maintenance: What You Need to Know to Take Care of Your Property" published by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection was distributed.
