Allegheny County Wide Collection Events

4/22/2025

Allegheny County has financially supported two separate collection events in partnership with the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC). Details regarding these separate opportunities to responsibly and safely dispose of household chemicals and electronics can be found below.

Household Hazardous Waste Event
Many common chemical products in the home contain hazardous ingredients that can negatively impact our health, even when used as directed over time. These chemicals also make their way into the surrounding environment, where they pollute waterways and harm wildlife. It is critical to our health and the health of the planet that we select, store, use and dispose of these chemical products responsibly. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is that portion of a household chemical product which is no longer usable or wanted and has to be disposed of.  You can dispose of such products on May 3, 2025 at Allegheny County's North Park. The registration information for this event can be accessed here.

Procedures & Fee Structure for HHW Events
  • Registration Required
  • $20 fee for every 10 gallons/50 lbs per vehicle assessed on all participants
  • All forms of payment accepted
  • All items MUST be placed in car trunk or truck bed
  • Remain in your vehicle at all times while contractor unloads materials
Additional Fees
  • $12 per fire extinguisher
  • $15 per pound of liquid mercury
  • Oversized loads – fee to be determined at the discretion of on-site staff
PRC strives to keep the cost of these services as affordable as possible. Fees charged to event participants cover less than 25% of the programs cost. The remaining costs are supported by the State of PA, County Government sponsors, and through grants from charitable foundations and contributors.

Hard to Recycle Event
Hard to Recycle events provide responsible and convenient disposal for items that are not eligible for curbside recycling. At these events, individuals have been able to recycle items such as e-waste, cell phones, polystyrene, Freon-containing appliances, tires and more. These events require all participants to register in advance. You can dispose of such products on May 17, 2025 at Allegheny County's North Park. The registration information for this event can be found here.
